… but what the hell.
Visit Free Rice. Go ahead, click it now. I’ll wait.
Did you look?
From the About page:
FreeRice has two goals:
- Provide English vocabulary to everyone for free.
- Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.
The idea behind it is that you take a little test. For every word you correctly define according to a list of meanings, they take 20 grains of rice and donate it to the poor via the United Nations World Food Program.
I have to say, it’s a pretty addictive game: not only because you’re testing yourself and trying to beat progressively higher hurdles, but also for the satisfaction of helping someone else while you’re having fun. It’s the middle class dream. </snark>
Seriously, though, you get to improve your vocabulary and test your memory while doing good for poor people worldwide. Win-win, I think.
