Let’s just ignore the fact that abstinence-only education doesn’t work, that it’s inherently discriminatory towards LGBT kids, and that it’s mired in sexism, because maybe this will be the bill which actually makes kids in TN realise that doing teh sexytime without a ring on your finger will straight up murder you.

And, hey, who knows? Maybe this will work, against all expectations in the reality-based community, and Tennesseans will breed themselves out of existence. Or not breed, in this case.

So there’s been a shitstorm at Balloon Juice…

Balloon Juice, a blog I read regularly and fail to keep up with adequately because it moves so fast, has been experiencing one of its periodic shitstorms. Oh, Teh Dramas!!!!One!!111!Eleventy!!!

Said shitstorm having occurred because the Angry Black Lady (who frontpages there as well) posted calling out a diarist at FireDogLake (the mothership for the execrable Jane Hamsher and her army of emogressive goons) for having used the term “House Nigger” (later redacted to “House n****r” at the behest of the FDL modbots). Said shitstorm then proceded to get into full swing at B-J, with various commenters agreeing with ABL (although some were dicks while doing it, which just shows that you can be right and be a fuckstick simultaneously) and others disagreeing and mostly being fucksticks as well. Basically, it was a shitstorm of fucksticks, which is something the more visually-oriented among you might wish not to think abo-Oh, too late for you. Enjoy that image.

While the shitstorm was occurring, people were arguing about what constituted racism, whether racism ever occurs against white people, if “cracker” is racist and so on, to which I answer: being dicks to other people because of their race, yes it does, and yes it is, albeit not anywhere near on the same scale of offensiveness as “nigger”.

The author of the shitstorm-provoking diary came in and made a non-apology apology and defended himself, things generally went to hell. A disaster of biblical proportions, real wrath of God type stuff, fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes… The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!

Anyway, throughout this whole thing, while ABl was being slandered and non-topics were being discussed and accusations of racism were being slung around, nobody thought to look back at the main issue, so in the interests of educating my fellow human beans, here it is:

Of course it isn’t OK for white people to use the word “nigger” as any kind of pejorative, even if it’s a metaphorical pejorative like “House Nigger”.
